WSW: Toying with Techniques - MCPT vs Copics

After rolling on this challenge, I read the rules (ha), and it doesn't really fit, but oh well. I'll share it as an aid to those still wondering if they need Copic markers!

I only remembered part of the challenge—toy with a new-to-you technique. Magic Colored Pencil Technique (MCPT) is one I've seen all over but never tried. That, despite the fact I own every color that Prismacolor makes because I used to do children's illustration. Yeah, those pencils were buried in a box under the bed! **gasp** So tonight, I got them out. And the baby oil (some people use Gamsol, baby oil is cheaper and apparently smells better!) and the blending stumps.

I stamped two House Mouse images, same ones on the same paper. I did the MCPT first. Now, understand, I'm good with pencils. I'm not bragging, it's just years of experience in the medium. Check out my portfolio on my other old website if you doubt me. Anyway, I colored in my images, and was a little afraid to mess with the baby oil after painstakingly blending the pencil as I know how.

Well, as soon as I touched the baby oil to it, the color just popped! Very very cool. I was psyched. It did get a little mushy, but I was still liking what I was seeing.

Then came the Copics. Did my typical coloring on them—and the comparison puts MCPT to shame if you're looking for vibrance. The alcohol inks in the Copics really do make a huge difference.

So there you have it, my little experiment. I'd love to find someone with SU markers, or some Tombows with more ink in them than my have. (It would be totally unfair to Tombow to even dare put my dried-out ones against Copics!) So hopefully at some point I can do another comparison.

Well I'm cooked for the night. I'm wiped! I started the weekend with a sore throat, and it hasn't turned into a bad one yet, but keeps threatening. So I'm off to bed, hopefully to feel bright and fresh and new in the morning!

Hope your feeling better, Sandy! Thanks so much for these examples. As you know, Copics are on my list..just need to sort out the must have colors to start with. I can't get over the difference in the WOW factor.
