Hero June 29

NaBloPoMo: National Blog Posting Month — June theme: HEROES! Link to my original post is here. I will only be using first initials to protect each person's identity.
My hero for today: G!

Today's hero served in Iraq as a nurse in a combat support hospital. She's hopefully stateside right now, but seeing as how I'm not aware of travel dates, she could indeed be in transit. But the last thing she said in one of her emails was that she used to often come to Washington State in her other career—and that she'd be definitely looking me up.

And I am truly hoping she wasn't just saying that! I would be so honored to shake the hand of a hero we've supported. I'd be thrilled to sit down for a glass of lemonade and hear her stories, to know what it was like to be deployed. To have her share what happened with our boxes of cards, how they distributed them, what differences they made in her own deployment. To just make it real.

So...this card's for G: let's chat. Come by anytime, you are most welcome here anytime! And I promise not to ask a thousand questions, and I promise to try not to cry. (I do that sometimes when I talk to someone in uniform at an airport. I'm enough of a mushball that just having the chance to tell y'all thanks makes me cry! How lame am I!)

See you stateside, girlfriend!
