Rosy florals

These cards use a really ancient stamp....the poor thing is so dry and cracked it barely stamps! I think I may retire it....unless someone knows how to tell me to refurbish dried out rubber stamps?

And for those who might have missed it—OWH is having another Bloghop! Go sign up! Let's see if we can beat that record of 150 blogs we had last Memorial Day! :)

Naked Snoopy

This week the sketch was from Caryl - and I made a card right away with it, and can't find it to post it! Ack. It's around here somewhere...unless it's on its way to Afghanistan! :( Who knows, it may have snuck into a box....

So...I got to make another! It was great to use some scraps of this yummy paper, plus this b&w Snoopy image. I always struggle with images that don't "need" coloring...I added a little shadow to it, but left Snoopy nearly naked. :)

Sliekje Digistamps

I am soooo excited. My friend Heike, known for her enabling, pointed me toward Sliekje Stamps - and oh my are these digi images FUN to color! I'm going to make a bazillion kids cards with these :) The lady who makes them is a Christian, and is Norwegian. I don't understand much on her blog, but she is very talented!

Just a matter of time

Isn't everthing? My life seems to revolve around not having enough time for things! From projects at work to those at home to ... well all of it. Biting off more than I can chew, maybe that's my problem. My phrase lately has been that I'm burning my candle at both ends - with a blow torch! They do say, though, if you want something done, give it to the busiest person you know; they know how to fit more things on their plate!

Enough of all that. Because that's not at all what the sentiment on this card is about. I was looking for something to use with this sweet digi I had downloaded and colored a while ago. I looked in my hoarded stash of bits and pieces, and found this sentiment sticker - how perfect for a hero missing his family at home? It's just a matter of time before they're together again. :) And it could go to a lot of the units we're currently serving...so many of them are close to coming home in the next month or two!

Metal de-hoarding

Here's another pair of cards with some leftover bits and pieces....the metal bling embellies! I have a whole case of yummy metal I hoard...and have soooo got to get rid of it. By using, not tossing, of course! I've also gotten bolder in using more of my bling lately....realising I can't just hold onto it all. And these flower images were sent to me years ago...I'm only now using them!

Hambo!

Over on the Stars and Stamps blog today, Hambo's freebie digi was uploaded. I just love this cute image! One card I made the other day is on that blog, and here's another one. Colored at the same time, so the image is the same, but the layout's a bit different.....

Be sure to check out the blog and download that image...and make a guy card!

Button Flowers

It's pretty spring-like here lately, so why not let my cards feel the sunshine too! I'm trying to use up a giant pile of embellishments, among which are a bunch of buttons - and lots of ribbon scraps in my overflowing jar. I soooo need to use up so many tidbits! You should be seeing a lot of that in the coming days ;)

Heike's Gold Medal

(inside joke on that title...lol)

This is yet another free digi - this time from StampInsanity! Doesn't that sound like the perfect site for someone like me to visit? lol! I had SUCH fun coloring this one. Took forever but it was a blast...thanks Heike for your ever-enabling help!

Easter reminder

A quick reminder that the Easter card deadline for OWH is the 26th....hurry up with those bunnies! If you're still making more this week, making cards that are just 'springy' will be better - then if it takes a while to get them mailed, processed, and shipped back out, they can be used past Easter!

This card has been eons in coming. I colored this little image last spring, I think. It's been in a little set of drawer thingies forever - I cleaned it out today and found it! I struggled with the card itself, but the more I layered stuff on it, the happier I became. I think I actually like it quite a bit now that it's done!

Muckleshoot madness

I had such a great day of stamping with friends today! I met up with four other ladies at the Muckleshoot Library for a day of crafty fun...we brought our own projects to work on, shared Copic tips, and made CARDS! I took with me my brand new wheeled cart thingie that I just picked up at Joann's (mmm love coupons!) this week. But - I had a heckuva time packing that thing. Any tips on how you organize yours? There are so many pockets, but I found I forgot a bunch of things....plus my Tonic cutter doesn't fit in it. Enough of all that...on to the cards!

I do mean it, I'd love your tips for organizing those cart thingies, or how you pick what to take to a crop or cardmaking party!

Sketchy Lion

I love this sketch from Kathy on the Stars and Stamps blog....it was a challenge with a small image, but I really like how this one came out. A little over-blinged, but ya know..... :)

S&S Stash: 2 papers and a button

The midweek challenge on the Stars and Stamps blog is a Stash Challenge - use two patterned papers and a button on a card. That's fairly easy for me - you know how much patterned paper I have around here! lol. And this card stemmed off an idea on a card from an OWH stamper - I don't remember whose it was, but using buttons for flowers was a brilliant idea!

One lucky cat

I bet you're looking for a cat on this card. Nope. Just signs of a cat. I had this one all colored, and Punch decided to walk not only across my craft table, but across a distress ink pad too. So....

He's lucky I like to distress stuff.

Toucan-eye

Sounds like some sort of disease, doesn't it? Just a simple card tonight, I am totally wiped out! A disastrous attempt at a tutorial on the S&S blog makes me wanna toss this computer out the window. So I gave up, and am going to BED!

Happy Valentines Day!

Today my cousin Luann, visiting from Pittsburgh, took a ferry ride over to Bainbridge Island. We wandered a bit, ate an early dinner at Doc's Marina Grill *yummmm* then caught "Valentines Day" at the movie theater. Nice way to spend the day!
I posted a short video on my Facebook page from the ferry ride, if you want to watch some seagulls!

Thoughtfulness

Not sure how thoughtful I've been today - more like panicked! I conversed via email with a reporter and we came ---> <---that close to being on the news tonight! I think we got bumped by some local breaking news....which is, I suppose, more important than OWH. I know that the Lord will have the spot air on the day when the right people are watching, which must not have been tonight. Hoping maybe tomorrow's the night! :)

For my church

My church's pastoral care ministry has been looking at me wistfully, hoping I'd get around to making more for them to use....I've been so unfaithful to them lately! So today I devoted the day to making some, and got 40 done (lots and lots of duplicates)....here are the 4 designs. All but the 2nd were CASEs of ones sent to OWH.....which do you like best out of them all?

Productivity!

Well, if you saw the earlier post with that pile of scraps and colored images - it's down to just a few little scraps now! All the images are on cards! Some are, well, rather simple cards - I ran out of steam as the evening wore on. But I was determined to clear off that pile. And I did! WahoOOooOO!!! 52 cards! What a huge sigh of relief to have all that used.  :)

February: International Muse Month

Mudbay Musings is hosting a blog party....and when they asked about paying homage to our muse, I thought - why not! I think of vintage-y and artsy when I think "muse," but all creativity needs inspiration...so I'll attempt to address mine.

They posted a list of questions, and though I don't think they all have to be answered, I immediately thought of some responses to some of them - so here's my thoughts.
  1. Have you created a piece of artwork that embodies the spirit of your Muse? I'm not sure that one piece could exactly incorporate that spirit, but see the end of this post for today's attempt at that.
  2. Are there people in your life that constantly inspire you?  Our OWH contacts! They amaze me every day...one of them posted a video showing his living conditions the other day....and it's just amazing they're willing to live in a tent they can't even stand up in! For me! How much more inspiring can you get?
  3. Do you have an inspiration shelf or board in your studio? Not in the way the question is asked, but...I have a great little sketchbook that I jot ideas down in. If I keep actual pieces in front of me, I try to mimic them, but if I doodle it, then I'm relying on my poor memory - so it challenges me to make it my own.
  4. Do your emotions find their way into your artwork?  Sometimes. When I'm blue or stressed, my cards tend to get reallllly simple. If I'm in a good mood or relaxed, the layers and embellishments increase drastically!
  5. Are you renewed by taking walks in the beach or woods? Yes! I don't do it nearly often enough.
  6. Does working in your garden refresh your soul? In spring yes....I get all full of plans and spend a lot of time in the garden, but by June 15th, my goose is cooked. I start resenting the mowing and trying to keep those dandelions out!
  7. Do the antics of your children or pets keep you grounded?  Yes indeed. Ciara's need for some TLC stops me for a snuggle and can really make a big difference. She's a big snugglebug!
  8. Do you love to surround yourself with particular colors?  I used to have a black pickup truck, but bought a yellow Mazda for my 40th birthday, and have just adored yellow ever since. I've since introduced more brights into my life :)
  9. Does watching your feathered friends give you wings? I have a bird feeder outside my bedroom window, and love to watch them argue over seeds in the mornings!
  10. Do favorite sounds or fragrances ignite the writer within?  Not sure about igniting a writer. But gimme the smell of certain foods...or the sound of bacon. Something is definitely ignited there!
  11. Does journaling give life to, or put to rest, your innermost thoughts? I'm not a big journal-er, unless you count blogging and social media...my life's kinda captured online, and I haven't done much journaling in years.
  12. Does the mere mention of a yard sale or flea market make your heart jump for joy?  It used to, til I realised how much stuff I have that I'll never use. My reponse to it now has to be, "STIFLE!"
  13. Does your everyday world have another life through the magic of a lens? I'm no artsy photographer, however, in the past year or so I find myself documenting more of my life in photos, mostly for OWH. Sometimes it feels like another life - always looking for something to share with OWH donors to tell the story of what the cards do for our heroes, and what happens in the process. So...I've certainly taken more photos since OWH began, if that's what the question's asking. lol.
So now on to photos of my muse....or muses :) This project is a gift I'd been meaning to make to send to an attorney who helped OWH out in a big way—he's going to be working on our trademark process too, so I wanted to send a little something to thank him for all his help! I printed out the photos and mounted them on black foamcore, and trimmed them out. The red paper is stamped with stars, and the dark paper under the photos is a subtle navy blue pattern—not easily seen on these pics.
