Monochromatic controversy!

FYI - MelJens is hosting OWH today for their weekly challenge!! WOOHOOO!!! Let's see if an OWHer can WIN!

My card, cute though it is, can be the source of a bit of controversy! It was made for the Monochromatic challenge on MelJens blog today...and I'd like your opinion: is it monochromatic? Monochromatic does mean one color. For the sticklers, this's got orange in it, which isn't really a brown. For that matter it's got white which isn't brown either. Not to mention the black ink the stamp is printed with. But I digress. The DT accepted this as mono, but I'm still not completely sure! But...I have no idea how one would make this image monochromatic, except to perhaps sepiatone the whole thing and use papers of the same tones...? Or I suppose the pumpkin could be wearing an orange hat. LOL.

So what do you think? Are you a color purist? Or are you one who'll streeeetch the definition of 'monochromatic' ? Go play along with the challenge and show us YOUR idea of a mono card!

(And by the way, this adorable Pumpkin Bumpkin is part of today's new release - cute huh! It's not in the store at the time of this writing, but I'll try to remember to add a link when it goes live.)

Challenge catch-up

These cards have been in partial progress for a bit - and I finally felt better enough to sit at my craft table. (I got sidetracked with a flood in the bathroom (toilet runneth over) that left me pretty wiped out, but I did get some cards done - and that felt a little back-to-normal! These are for challenges that are still listed on the Stars and Stamps blog sidebar - you have til tomorrow night on a bunch of them and can win some great prizes! (disclaimer: not all have prizes! But they're all wonderful for inspiration!)

This first card is for the challenge to CASE featured cardmaker Barb - she had a darling thankyou card and I used the layout and strong contrast on this one. My proportions are a little off from hers because the image I picked is pretty big - a RAKd HouseMouse image. But it's a rabbit.....do they have a name for their line of other critters? House bunnies? lol. They probably do! Ha. I'm also using up the background paper - I have a TON of it and plan to get it all finished up before fall is over; my church needs a bunch for pastoral care to use, so they might get a lot with this stuff! Next year I want to buy *new* papers, and not be using up old stuff. :)

This one is a CASE of a card by featured cardmaker Lynn; she had one with flowers cascading down some ribbons, and I immediately thought of snowflakes and some scrap ribbons in my ribbon jar. Again - trying to use things up!! The paper is from a really beautiful stack by K&Co I got last year for 75% off - and hopefully I can get it too used up by the end of winter. (The stack of holiday and winter papers to use is about 6 inches tall, cut into card front size; anyone wanna bet on whether or not I blast through it??)

And here's my card for the Sketch challenge 36 for this week on S&S...the image is one I think I got in a swap on the OWH Facebook page discussion board. I think. At least it was with a bunch of images I didn't remember! So I'm going through that big stack too, coloring them up and using them. No more carryover from season to season! Agh! Too much stuff around my house. :)

And one more thing for today...only those who actually click on my blog link will be able to answer. But - what do you think of my new header? I know a lot of you read this in a feed reader or on facebook, but I figured I'd jazz it up for fall.

More Sparkles!

Here's another Sparkle image....I love love love this one. Fortunately we're extending OWH's fall theme deadline to October 15th - not Thanksgiving cards, but fall! So I have time to make a couple more with this image.

To create the shape around the image, I traced the round bit at the top using a nestie circle, then cut by hand. Thus the distressing to hide my mess! The butterfly was punched twice, and I cut the wings off of the orange one. And for the record, that satin ribbon matches the greens exactly; I'm not sure what happened in the photo to make it all teal-y looking.

And of course this one perfectly fits the for-the-girls challenge on S&S for this week - you're definitely going to want to go see that challenge, especially to read the story of the young girl who made the sample card. Wow on her eloquence and her pretty card!

I've also been given this lovely award by Holley over at Holley's Hobbies - she makes so many beauuuutiful cards, it's an honor to get this award from her :)
Following are the instructions when receiving this award:

  1. Accept the award. (Post it on your blog with the name of the person who has granted the award their blog link.)
  2. Send it forward to other bloggers.
  3. Contact those blog owners and let them know they’ve been chosen.

It's so hard to pick bloggers! As you may have noticed, I don't keep a list of blogger friends in my sidebar, because it'd be miles long. So I resort to not having any...which doesn't mean I don't love my blog friends! I would give this award out to each and every one of you, but that list would be ridiculously long. And I'm still at home, sick, today....so that's just not happening. So please feel free to snag the award for your own blog :) Big hugs, and thanks for being my faithful readers!

MWT: Easel card...with my new Sparkle stamp!

I finally broke down and bought a couple Sparkle Creations stamps....soooo much fun to color! The rubber is nicely etched and stamps up well, and my only complaint, if it is one, is that the images are quite large. Which makes for easy coloring! Even if it doesn't show off my patterned paper very much :) I decided to make an Easel card, which is this past week's midweek throwdown on S&S. Tomorrow's a new challenge, so I'm making it just under the wire!

And....isn't it amusing that my *first* Thanksgiving card is posted just as the deadline is looming? Geesh! Last minute Charlie :)

Purple Penguin

I finally got around to finishing this card - I had the image in mind for Barb's challenge at Paper Therapy, but just hadn't gotten my act together! The challenge was to use a penguin and oldie moldie purple paper, which this even happens to be oldier and moldier - it was someone else's "ugly" paper sent to me to dare me to use it. LOL! I stamped it with snowflakes....just to make it tolerable. LOL!

Mojo Monday 157

I took a break from OWH challenges and took on the Mojo Monday sketch this week...love it!

I used MelJen's little pocket mice stamp...these two are so darling :) They're in this week's release....great for the last of the Thanksgiving cards for OWH. Be sure you postmark them by the end of the month - we're moving on to Christmas really fast!

The Stamping Bazaar .... cuteness!

I love Marina's images and hope she gets more posted...they are so stinkin' cute! This sweetie can be dressed up for any holiday...here she is ready for Christmas! Please forgive the bad embossing; no matter what I do, I can't seem to emboss cleanly! Ugh. But the card was great til I added that part. LOL. I used the sketch from the Wild Flower Patch. This one's for the Christmas card OWH challenge at The Stamping Bazaar - go play along, and you can win some ADORABLE images Marina made with OWH in mind :)

Happy birthday...mmmmmmm

I'm loving the little DCWV ministack I treated myself to for fall cards....I'm trying to see if I can use up tons of it so I don't have leftovers (just like the giant pile of Christmas papers - how many can I use up???) This is a birthday card using a sweet little digi, Birthday Chloe, from InStyle Stamps - isn't she the cutest little thing? Those adhesive blings on the left, by the way, started out shocking pink (and on sale) - a little copic marker and they're now all matchymatchy to the ribbon :) LOVE my copics!

So this card is for the following challenges:

InStyle - birthday
OneStitchAtATime - birthday
Dutch Dare - birthday or other

A little distressing

This is a pretty simple card for the likes of me and my layers. It was for a one-layer challenge...and I kinda like it! I had a little surprise with that masking; I had punched a border strip to block off the snow, and the distressing pad actually pushed a little ink through the holes!

Hello deer

These are two oldies that never got shared here...but when I found the pictures from the other cards I submitted for Kimber's book, I thought I'd post them - and I still love them both! They've long gone to our heroes and made it back again. I like the thought that some little girl has this deer taped to her mirror with a note from Daddy when he was overseas :)

Rick St Dennis Halloween cards

My final ode to Halloween cards....and even on these I can't seem to bring myself to use a Happy Halloween sentiment! I just don't like the holiday much. Well except for the kiddos coming to my door, that's a ton of fun :) I used some images from Rick St Dennis - I was given one of each to play with, not sure if they're in Rick's store yet or not; they weren't the last time I looked. CUTE though.

Remember, today's the OWH halloween deadline - if you still 'need' to make some cards and use up some stash, make them AnyHero cards - you can still send them for the next couple weeks :) Many thanks to Kelly, by the way, who gave me a cute sheet of Halloween paper at stamp club yesterday - can't believe I didn't bring any with me!

Love....has taken all my mojo

I'm not sure there's much more left now...lol! I call this "Ode to Dixie."Not that she's my love or anything - she just hates hearts. So here's a mushy mushy mushy card....with no hearts at all.

However I am afraid there is possibly no more mojo left.

Sentiment Only

With the "sentiment only" challenge, I countered the last card's complexity with some sheer simplicity! Well, it coulda had less layers. But you know what I mean :)

And now, blessed is she who finishes her BSF questions. Yes, it's Sunday....cramming time! Off to finish that before getting back to playing...

Instruction failure...LOL

Okay, I gotta get more sleep. I read the Designed 2 Delight challenge blog post and went off to make my card...and totally didn't 'get' it. LOL! The 2 in their name confused me, so when they said "use any Designed 2 Delight Images," my brain read: "Use any 2 Designed 2 Delight images." Yes, my brain inserted an extraneous piece of info that led to my creation!

I fell off the bandwagon of getting their freebies (if you use the freebie each week, they email you the next one). So I looked at the two D2D images in my digis folder....and here's what came out for my card - an AnyHero thanksgiving card:

I really need to take more time to read instructions....the actual instruction, of course, was to use one image, and they suggested getting their halloween one to keep on the freebie wagon. But I think I'm going to get off the train, it's too hard to remember my followthrough with everything I've got going on right now. Just check out the mail I had to sort after stamping with friends all day....the 2nd photo is what the pile of boxes becomes when it's finished.

That box on the floor right by Ciara is all AnyHero mail - all that came in one day! Woohoo! Now I need to get to the stack of papers on the top of the stack; we write a report on each Packing Slip, and I am uber-far-behind, so I'm off to do that while monitoring the FB virtual party :)

Happy Fall Birthday

Woohoo, the Facebook party is underway! This is my entry (not that I'm going for prizes, but I gotta play, ya know!) for the "indian summer" challenge - use a summery image and make it autumn. I've been wanting to ink this stamp up for ages and it was time!

I'm also entering this for the following challenges:
  1. Kah-Wink-E-Dink birthday card

  5. Speedy the Cat birthday card

I'm published....moreover, OWH is published!

I am sooooo excited...it's been a long wait, but oh how thrilled I am at the outcome. Kimber McGray, longtime friend of OWH, asked for submissions for a book that she was pitching - and she wanted to talk about OWH in it!

I was ecstatic that she chose one of my cards for the book - it's a little winter one I made last year. And I can finally post it here:

The book is out now, and I got a copy from Kimber - it's called 175 Fresh Card Ideas, and is supposed to be on the shelves now, so go pick up a copy!

Click to zoom in to read part of the Acknowledgements!!!!

And here's the page with my little card:

The whole book is FANTASTIC and has the most amazing ideas in it. I have to say, I'm not one to get all gaga over cards in books (I see enough of them in boxes at my house to inspire me!) but the ones in this book are positively wonderful. You'll get lots of great ideas!

And now....I'm off to STD for the day. That's the Stamping Together Divas, our little stamping group. I was going to be staying home to skype in for some parties, but never heard back from folks who'd indicated an interest - so I'm gonna go make cards with friends instead of sitting 'round home waiting for my skype to ping me. ;)

CASE-ing Martie!

I finally got 'round to CASEing our own Martie on the S&S blog...I loved both her black and white combo card, as well as how she uses such sweet simple images layered on background paper combos. The floral is a piece I stamped when I was at Impress one night using their stash stamps. Sentiment is a sticker. Poppies are a digi by Tammy at A Day for Daisies.

Christmas scraps....and a puppy!

Tonight I'm catching up on some challenges - I only got *one* package of cards today! Unheard of lately. But I'm taking advantage of a night off with some craftiness.

These are cards made for the Christmas card challenge on Cowgirl Up - they're collecting cards but I won't be mailing mine over to them, lol. :) This first pair is made from scrap pieces leftover from last year - those little snowmen are stickers! Yes, stickers! I layered them on scallops last year. And they've sat in my stashbox ever since.

This is a brand new image for me from Eat Cake Graphics....it's a little large but OH so cute. I couldn't find a holiday sentiment stamp (lol) so was trying to think of what the puppy might be saying. "Hello" seemed to be what most dogs would say once knocking over Santa, dontcha think?
